Company
Profile
South Central is a third generation mechanical construction
firm located in Jackson, Mississippi, specializing in plumbing and HVAC
(heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems for commercial and
industrial buildings.
  
Additionally, South Central installs site
utilities, medical gas systems, building controls and industrial process
systems. Other services include sheet metal fabrication, millwright,
maintenance and service technicians, design/build contracting, CAD
(computer aided drafting) and value engineering. Computer enhanced
technical advancements have allowed South Central to excel at projects
that demand precise and intricate work.
South Central recognizes that technology and
state-of-the-art equipment can't take the place of hard work and
dedication. South Central's workforce is rewarded for their work
according to their individual job performance. The merit shop system
allows the "best of the best" to thrive.
This philosophy has allowed the company's steady, controlled growth
from a local craftsman working out of his garage on residential projects
to a regional full service mechanical construction firm with a 30,000+ sq.
ft. facility on 12 acres with offices, fabrication shops and warehouses.
Company History
In 1950, Seymour R. Pooley Sr. came to Jackson from New Orleans
as a superintendent on the Woolfolk Building for American Heating and
Plumbing. Instead of returning to New Orleans after the job was
complete, Seymour, Sr. decided to begin a small business of his own, and
Jackson, Mississippi became the home of South Central Heating and
Plumbing.
Seymour Sr. made the family garage his corporate headquarters and began
working on houses springing up in Jackson. The work was steady, but
not nearly as challenging as the work he had done previously. That
was about to change.
The first major job South Central landed was just what Seymour, Sr.
wanted: a big job that involved what he thought would be the wave of
the future for all new buildings . . . air conditioning.
South Central was awarded the contract for the original downtown McRae's
Department Store.

The Pooley Company
In 1954, the Pooley Company was founded. Though its initial
purpose was to serve as a wholesale supplier, it was soon converted to a
sheet metal shop when one of South Central's subcontractors
defaulted. The Pooley Company is now one of Mississippi's largest,
most technically advanced suppliers of computer generated duct
fabrication.
